For a client who follows a specialist structure, we create a composite benchmark based on the strategic asset allocation. We report performance relative to the strategic benchmark and the inflation target on a monthly basis. We also formally present performance to the Investment Committee and Board of Trustees. Our value on asset allocation is therefore reflected in how the portfolio performs relative to the strategic benchmark from both a risk and return perspective. For the current reporting year, we have added significant value relative to their strategic benchmark. Our recommendation to invest in private market funds with a high ESG impact as well as blended finance funds has added value as these investments have either enhanced return or lowered risk or both relative to the strategic benchmark, which is in addition to the positive environmental and social benefits. We have set a strategic weight to alternatives / private markets and have increased the actual weight to such investments every year since 2015. Almost all of the private market funds have a high ESG impact and include investments in renewable energy, impact funds targeting job creation and infrastructure.
