We have developed a unique and practical rating methodology to assess the environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) performance of unlisted, privately owned African companies. Our assessment and verification supports investors and other providers of finance to identify responsible businesses and assist them to improve performance over time in a way that also creates business value. 

Our approach offers a simple and accessible way to apply essential elements of international good practice standards, such as the IFC Performance Standards, Global Reporting Initiative, UN Global Compact, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in an emerging markets context. Our goal is to increase investment into responsible and sustainable African enterprises by encouraging companies to improve and communicate about their sustainability performance.
