Green and Social Bond second party opinions

Vigeo Eiris provides independent third party opinion on green/social bond issuances, to be used by the issuer on the market.

We provide an independent expert’s assessment of both the responsibility of the issuer and the issuance, in terms of Environmental, Social and Governance responsibility commitments, policies and practices, based on the Green Bond Principles (GBP) and/or on the Climate Bond Initiative (CBI) requirements. We also act as certified “official verifier” for the CBI.

Our service for the bond issuers includes:

Assessing the company’s exposure to ESG risks and its level of risk mitigation, based on our ESG research
Assessing the environmental/social benefits of the proposed categories of eligible projects, and its contribution to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations
Reviewing the evaluation and selection process of the eligible projects to be financed with the proceeds of the bond issuance
Assessing the transparency and control of the process of allocation of the proceeds
Evaluating the quality of the reporting mechanism and indicators, on both financial and extra financial aspects of the bond, prior to the issuance
Formulating an opinion on the management of ESG risks during the implementation of projects
Delivering a “Second Party Opinion”, providing a level of assurance on the responsible nature of the issuance in line with the Green Bonds Principles and/or with CBI requirements.

The Sovereign Sustainability Rating (SSR)

This product measures the level of sustainability of states in regard to internationally recognised environmental, social, and institutional standards. Sources used are from international institutions, trade unions and NGOs. This research enables asset allocation by investors and as well portfolio analysis by asset owners.
