07.2. For the roles for which you have RI oversight/accountability or implementation responsibilities, indicate how you execute these responsibilities.

Each key department has specified duties related to ESG/CRI activities, in terms of implementation. Most departments are expected to have knowledge of the activities and priorities of the Catholic Responsible Investments (CRI) team, and this team reviews those priorities on an ongoing basis with staff. It also posts internal training/educational videos regularly on CRI topics, where some staff are required to watch and re-create videos with those same key messages, for greater uptake. The CIO and the newly integrated CRI team are responsible for implementation overall, and the CRI team oversees how sub-advisers implement our CRI strategies, including screening. The Investment Management team merged with the Catholic Responsible Investments team in 2019, to improve our CRI integration firm-wide and manager-wide.

07.3. Indicate the number of dedicated responsible investment staff your organisation has.

Other investment management staff on the CRI team have roles in CRI research, manager engagement, reporting, screening, and integration, but those roles are not dedicated full-time to ESG/CRI activities.

In 2019, the Catholic Responsible Investing and Investment Management teams merged into one cohesive Catholic Responsible Investments team.  The team was merged to better facilitate the integration of our ESG/CRI work into the portfolios, and to improve and better assess the CRI/ESG performance of our sub-advisers. The result is that climate change-related impacts are more regularly being brought to the CIO and investment staff, and being raised more routinely with sub-advisers now. Climate-related portfolio issues are aired, when necessary, in weekly CRI team meetings that include the CIO.

07.8 CC. Indicate how your organisation engages external investment managers and/or service providers on the TCFD recommendations and their implementation.

ESG/CRI criteria are part of the short list of critical success factors that executive management and staff are focused on through the year, with a significant number of staff being measured on some aspect of completing those CRI objectives. Most staff have knowledge of our CRI/ESG program, focus areas, and progress, and personal development on ESG issues occurs in various ways, from PRI Academy classes, to other ESG trainings, to in-house staff expert-led education.
