APG is one of the founding members of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment.

APG initiated collaboration, led and prepared papers and joint statements, acted as an active spokesperson, provided financial support beyond membership fee, supported to some degree in leadership and/or in preparation of documentation, contributed to the organisation or content of events organised by the group, and provided general support for the initiative in various non-public forums.

Additionally, APG is a member of the PRI Steering Committee on Policy and Research, and the PRI working groups on Sustainable Palm Oil, Responsible Cobalt Sourcing, Sustainable Forests, Commodities and Just Transition, as well as the Private Equity Advisory Committee and the Hedge Fund Advisory Committee. APG is co-chair of the PRI Advisory Committee on SDG's.

APG, is a member of this not for profit organisation. During 2019 APG participated in events and is contributing to discussions around policy developments in the US market.

APG is a member of Eumedion. APG is actively involved in the work of several committees and working groups.

APG actively participates in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) on behalf of its clients. APG provided general support for the initiative in various non-public forums.

APG, is a member of this informal forum that provides a platform for international investors on sharing of information on developments in corporate governance. During 2019 APG contributed to discussions and supported a number of engagement initiatives by members.

APG is a founding member of GRESB and has an active role in the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board. APG is also a founding member of GRESB Infrastructure and is a member of the Infrastructure Advisory Board of GRESB.

APG is an active member of the European Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) participating in various working groups. In addition, we are active in the collaborative Climate Action 100+ engagement with IIGCC.

APG is a member of the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN). APG has been actively involved in organizing conferences, speaking at conferences, and is part of the ICGN faculty of its training programme. The MD GRIG has a position on the board of ICGN.

Since 2010, APG has been an active member of the International Integrated Reporting Committee (IIRC), a powerful interdisciplinary initiative by leading figures from the business community, the financial sector, legislators and regulators, accountants, academics and civil society organizations. IIRC has published a widely supported reporting framework for companies that combines financial, social, environmental and governance information in a workable form. APG is represented at the highest level of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).

Through our involvement on the board of the IIGCC, we actively participate in other climate-oriented investor networks (e.g. collaborate with CERES in the Climate Action 100+ engagement).

Through our involvement in IIGCC we are in contact with the UNEP FI. We have collaborated with them e.g. in events at the Paris Summit.

We use the principles put forth by the UNGC in our investment processes and engagement decisions. In so doing, we advocate externally for the adoption of the principles by the companies in which we invest.

          Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI)

APG is fully committed to the SBAI and actively advances its Standards. Through our hedge fund adviser we are represented on the Board of Trustees and APG is also an Investor Chapter member of the SBAI.

          Corporate Human Rights Benchmark

APG is a co-founder of the Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB). The CHRB measures how companies perform across 100 indicators based on the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs) on Human Rights. In December 2019, the second third version of the CHRB was published in which 200 key listed companies in the garment, extractive and agriculture sector were ranked.

On behalf of our clients, together with other Dutch pension funds and the Pension Federation we have actively worked on reaching an agreement between the sector, the government and social partners about international corporate social responsibility. Within this agreement, six pension funds are working together on collective engagement to initiate positive change at six companies where there is a risk of human and/or labor rights violations. In 2019, the first case was launched: An international mining company.

In July 2019, APG signed the commitment of the Financial Sector to the Dutch Climate Agreement. This includes commitments to support financing the energy transition, publishing carbon footprint of relevant portfolios and setting targets. The CEO of the APG Group was the chair of the working group that developed the commitment of the Financial Sector to the Dutch Climate Agreement.

Description

          We have contributed to (local) sessions on Responsible Investment such as the CFA/VBA society in the Netherlands. In addition, APG regularly briefs clients (including board members) on Responsible Investment.

          We have been actively involved in advancing RI in Real Estate (GRESB), Hedge Funds and Private Equity through various ESG Initiatives.

          Representatives of APG regularly speak at public events and conferences to promote responsible investment. For example, the MD GRIG was on a panel during the Principles for Responsible Investment 2019 in Paris.
