Property

We have a Sustainability Strategy for the direct real estate portfolio. The main components of the Strategy are: track greenhouse gas emissions, perform energy audits, identify capital repair projects that may have an environmental benefit and pursue green building certifications where feasible.

17.1. Describe how you address ESG issues for externally managed assets for which a specific PRI asset class module has yet to be developed or for which you are not required to report because your assets are below the minimum threshold.

Asset Class

Fixed income - Corporate (financial)

IM mandates includes both Fixed Income - Corporate (financial) and Fixed Income - Corporate (non-financial). See response for Fixed Income Corporate (non-financial)  refer to question SAM 02.2.

Fixed income - Securitised

IM mandates includes both Fixed Income - Corporate (financial) and Fixed Income - Corporate (non-financial). See response for Fixed Income Corporate (non-financial)  refer to question SAM 02.2.

Private equity

Our private equity General Partner is a UNPRI signatory and integrates ESG into its investment selection, portfolio management and investor reporting processes. Any significant ESG issues and findings are reported to its investors including us.

 

Property

We engage with our fund managers on their ESG policies and practices and report their efforts to our trustees on an annual basis.

 

Infrastructure

Selection
Prospective managers are asked to produce their ESG policy together with their ongoing related practices and procedures.  Investment managers are asked to indicate whether their firm is/is not a signatory to the UNPRI. 

 

Monitoring
On an annual basis, investment managers are asked to respond to a series of questions pertaining to what extent ESG issues are integrated into their investment processes and are asked to provide specific examples of initiatives and results that have occurred during the reporting period. Investment managers are asked to indicate whether their firm is/is not a signatory to the UNPRI. 

 

Commodities

Commodity mandate is futures based with tight tracking error to benchmark. ESG criteria are not considered.

Farmland

Investment manager is a UNPRI signatory with established involvement in ESG related associations. Rely upon Investment Manager's ESG program which was a major consideration of their retention.
