PE 01. Description of approach to RI

01.1. Provide a brief overview of your organisation’s approach to responsible investment in private equity.

ESG is integrated across firm operations with Board level oversight.
As ESG is integrated into our core operations, from the investment evaluation stage, the person in charge of investment takes the lead in identifying the ESG issues inherent in the target company, improving them during the investment period and raising the economic value of the company by the time of exit. This process is supported by the ESG support team.
Post investment, a member of portfolio company management is assigned responsibility for ESG performance in the company. Unison works together with our portfolio companies, as necessary, to implement relevant ESG initiatives.
To improve and maintain ESG performance across portfolios, the ESG support team conducts monitoring of portfolio companies in addition to providing support to Unison investment teams.

PE 02. Investment guidelines and RI

02.1. Indicate whether your organisation’s investment activities are guided by a responsible investment policy / follow responsible investment guidelines.

02.2. Describe how your organisation outlines expectations on staff and portfolio companies’ approach towards ESG issues in investment activities.

Expectations on staff and portfolio companies are clearly defined in the Unison Capital ESG policy and procedures. All staff are to consider ESG issues relevant to their activities with ESG set as one evaluation factor in our personnel evaluation process. The policy is used as a guideline for investment in all phases from investment sourcing phase to exit phase.

As a general rule, in portfolio companies a director is assigned responsibility for ESG performance within the company.  This is one component of their performance evaluation.  Unison’s ESG support team is responsible for monitoring such activities.
