In 2018 we performed for the first time comprehensive analysis on ESG factors on all managers used in our investment strategies. In 2019 we continued this work and we built up the  ESG questionaire for managers. This questionaire is sent to managers annually and also as a part of our DD work when selecting new potential manager. The questionaire includes following issues:

Whether the manager is a UN PRI signatory, if they disclose the UN PRI or other ESG-ratings for themselves, are there ESG-principles for investing activities and can portfolio managers clearly explain how these are put into practice, what ESG-analysis do they perform on companies and what data sources and internal resources do they have for this, what is their stance on active ownership and positive influencing, what is included in their exclusion lists and how do they define controversial weapons,  do they have a climate strategy and carbon footprint measurements, do they check that companies are not in breach with the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact does company specific analysis show sufficient consideration given to governance aspects, and how do they report on ESG including the risks and opportunities.

Outcomes

In many cases, managers have started to put more emphasis on ESG-factors after discussions we have had on the topic.
