In 2019, our manager research continued to conduct ESG-focused due diligence for each our external managers which includes an evaluation of their policies and practices, resources, and commitment to sustainable investing. Managers are scored as Strong, Moderate or Weak based on the findings of this analysis.

Outcomes

Our manager research rankings were incorporated into our manager database and continue to be updated on an ongoing basis as part of our continued engagement and monitoring processes.

In 2019, we conducted research to identify and onboard new managers with dedicated impact strategies in both listed equities and fixed income. 

Outcomes

Managers were identified and onboarded in each asset class and we expect to allocate capital to these new managers in 2020.

In 2019 we sought to enhance knowledge sharing internally to better educate people across our investment management unit and client service teams about our approach to ESG integration in manager research. 

Outcomes

We produced a white paper summarizing best practices among our managers rated "strong" for their responsible investing performance, which was published internally in early 2020.
