INF 12. Proportion of assets with ESG performance targets

12.1. Indicate the proportion of infrastructure assets for which your organisation and/or operators included ESG performance in investment monitoring during the reporting year.

12.2. Indicate ESG issues for which your organisation, and/or operators, typically sets and monitors targets (KPIs or similar) and provide examples per issue.

          Environmental compliance: Obtain approval for all relevant environmental permits and leverage industry studies/best practice to improve environmental performance of future projects.
          Conservation: Purchase and retire biodiversity credits to provide protected habitats
          Water management: Conduct water audit to understand and potentially reduce consumption

          Health & Safety: Focus on health and safety performance by setting KPIs such as number of near misses and lost time incidents to make management accountable.
          Community engagement: Establish a formal community engagement policy and toolkit to improve community relations, prevent delays to new market entry and development.
          Contractor management: Evaluate how the operator manages the contractors and sub-contractors used at the asset and ensure proper policies are in place.

          Cybersecurity: Engage external consultant to review cybersecurity management systems, identify and close major cybersecurity risks by strengthening control.
          Corporate governance: Establish an advisory board and build out board governance through the respective committees.
          ESG policy: Ensure all assets have board-approved ESG policies in place

  • In 2019, 92% of our infrastructure investees maintained a formal policy on environmental management.

  • We engage with management to establish ESG engagements that target improvements in the management of ESG factors.

  • We hold on-site workshops, where we review the year's engagement, provide best practice examples from other portfolio assets.

  • We use of the maturity assessment to identify new areas of opportunity for risk mitigation and/or value creation.

  • In 2019, our Private Infrastructure Asset Management team drafted their 2020 performance plans, which include ensuring that 100% of Partners Group's majority-owned infrastructure assets have board-approved ESG policies in place. For assets where Partners Group lacks majority governance rights, we encourage the other shareholders and the Board to adopt similar ESG policies.
