SG 09. Collaborative organisations / initiatives

09.1. Select the collaborative organisation and/or initiatives of which your organisation is a member or in which it participated during the reporting year, and the role you played.

Select all that apply

Your organisation’s role in the initiative during the reporting period (see definitions)

Provide a brief commentary on the level of your organisation’s involvement in the initiative. [Optional]

We only became signatories mid-December 2018, so we had no time to contribute in 2018.

In 2019, we learnt a lot about PRI and we attended the PRI in Person event in Paris last September. Looking forward we plan to get gradually closer to PRI and may be contribute through higher PRI involvement (you may have some suggestions for our small fund?)

          1% for the Planet NGO - Capital D will give every year 1% of its management fees to not for profit organisations dedicated to environment.

1% for the Planet NGO - Capital D partners James Bidwell and Sophie Albizua set-up and chair the UK steering group. They launched the first London event with We Forest, Patagonia and Pukka Tea (Videos available on request) to drive awareness and engagement. Further engagement and events planned this year. We are strong promoters and have been active contributors to 1% for the Planet: capital D became signatory last year and so did our first portfolio company in 2019. In 2019, capital D gave 1% of its revenues to 2 NGOs, ClientEarth (https://www.clientearth.org/) and WeForest (https://www.weforest.org/) to support climate-related issues and to offset our carbon footprint.

Furthermore, Jean-Marc Jabre is very involved with ClientEarth, where his wife serves on the development board. They raise awareness and fundraising to tackle the planet's most urgent issues such as climate change, biidiversity, oceans and wildlife.

Our strategic partner SPRINGWISE, led by our capital D partner James Bidwell, organizes SPRINGWISE SESSIONS events several times a year. In these external events, he gathers domain experts around a theme for presentations to over 100 attendees, followed by a panel discussion and promotes the development of best ESG practices beyond Capital D and our portfolio companies.

You can visit the springwise website here (https://www.springwise.com). Examples of such events in 2019 include:

- Planet Positive: what to do about climate change?, a Springwise Sessions event, bringing together a panel of experts from the business and environmental community for a stimulating debate on June 4, 2019 in London;

- How Education can adapt the pace of change?, a Springwise Sessions event, held on October 1, 2019 in London. https://www.springwise.com/events/springwise-sessions/future-of-education

          LIFE

In 2019, we also led a number of external sessions at the invitation of third parties (e.g. INSEAD, LIFE).

For example, one of our partners, Jean-Marc Jabre, led a panelist discussion at LIFE event on October 17, 2019 in London The Rise of Sustainable Investing, where we animated a panel discussing the rise of sustainable investing from a fringe concern to the mainstream.

You can visit our website and see several exemple of the external events where we have played a leadership role in promoting ESG best practices.
