Chief Investment Officer:

  • Sets direction for Responsible Investment Strategies, Stewardship Objectives and ESG integration within the organisation
  • Acts as the Stewardship Officer to ensure responsible investment policies are fulfilled
  • Engages with national and international stakeholders to understand new trends in ESG and implement them across SBIFMPL
  • Encourages the team to adopt ESG best practices within the organisation, creates conducive environment for such best practices to be adopted
  • Sets the direction of work with newer collaborations and initiatives within the domain
  • Finalizes the Policy documents with respect to responsible investment
  • Heads the ESG Review Committee Meetings, takes stock of engagement and stewardship activities and provides direction for next steps
  • Member of the Proxy Voting Committee
  • Represents the organisation on public forums

Head of Research:

  • Oversees ESG integration across the coverage universe
  • Interacts closely with analysts on sector specific issues on a day to day basis
  • Tracks developments in ESG sectors and guides ESG analysts on sectoral analyses
  • Works towards improvement and finalisation of internal ESG frameworks
  • Assists Proxy Voting Committee in making Voting decisions
  • Integrates new ways to improve ESG assessments and monitoring in order to use ESG as a risk mitigation tool
  • Provides inputs to overarching Policy documents with respect to responsible investment

Head of Equities:

  • Coordinates with other portfolio managers on ESG integration efforts
  • Assist in engagement efforts with companies owing to his deeper relationships with Management personnel
  • Provides inputs in for Proxy Voting

Portfolio Managers:

  • Use ESG scores provided by external agencies and ESG analysts to make portfolio decisions
  • Engage with ratings providers on methodology improvements or score discrepancies
  • Engage with companies on ESG scores/Controversies
  • Monitor trends in similar portfolios for peer comparison, benchmarking and improvements
  • Assessment of newer products available like carbon emission reports for integration in portfolios
  • Interaction with National Stock Exchange and other Index Providers for better understanding of benchmarks used in ESG based index creation

ESG Analysts:

  • Active monitoring of ESG scores, incidents and practices of investee companies
  • Monthly reporting of ESG score trends, controversy scores and developments noticed in investee companies
  • Engagement with companies with low scores/controversies
  • Engagement with companies with high ESG scores to understand best practices
  • Extending help to companies to start ESG integration
  • Scoring companies on Internal ESG framework when initiating into coverage
  • Execution of RI activities under international agreements under guidance from Head of Research/CIO
  • Drafting of policies and documents
  • Background analysis and peer comparison for voting decisions
  • Background work and engagement with other stakeholders on various ESG and RI related platforms for capacity building

07.7 CC. For management-level roles that assess and manage climate-related issues, provide further information on the structure and processes involved.

This year, we are in the process of integrating TCFD based factors into our strategy and reporting. For climate-related issues, the Chief Investment Officer will have the oversight over TCFD based reporting, carbon emission-based analyses of our ESG Fund, Climate Risk analyses of the fund house and internalization of climate change factors in our ESG based assessments. The structure of these studies is still evolving and will be communicated in the next report.
