          Mercer Study “Investing in a time of climate change”

The Mercer Study was designed as a research project that project partners like the New York State Common Retirement would provide financial support towards it being fully funded. This began in September 2014 and was launched June 2015. As a Project Partner, the New York State Common Retirement Fund not only funded but was involved in reviewing (1) climate change scenario development; (2) risk factors development and (3) application of the aforementioned to asset classes and investments.

Description

          The New York State Comptroller (Trustee), CIO, and representatives of the New York State Common Retirement Fund regularly promote responsible investment especially at events and conferences held by organizations in which we are members - including Ceres, CDP, CII and the PRI.

Description

          The Fund engaged both current and prospective managers with respect to whether they sign on to public campaigns - including the PRI in selection and monitoring. This is specifically considered and reviewed in the Fund's ESG Risk Assessment. The results of the ESG Risk Assessment are specifically considered in the investment process alongside other factors material to financial performance.
