Our mission is to provide our clients the opportunity to promote a sustainable future without compromising on returns. We do this by focusing on impact investments that provide access to basic needs (banking, education, energy, employment, sustainable agriculture...) to the poorest people in emerging/frontier markets. Social impact is therefore is an important driver of the investment process.

IFD 02. Governance, management structures and processes

02.1. Provide a brief description of the governance and management structures and processes you have in place for your responsible investment activities and implementation of the PIIF.

Our overall vision, philosophy and strategy relating to sustainability is set by the Board of Managing Partners (the Board).

When it comes to inclusive finance, the management and implementation of our investment activities is overseen by a specific investment forum comprising the relevant portfolio managers, the head of open architecture, the head of risk, emerging and frontier market analysts and our advisors. We carry out extensive internal due diligence on the microfinance investment intermediaries (MIIs) we work with. For the microfinance institutions (MFIs) we work with, our governance, oversight and investment decisions are informed by our advisors, Symbiotics.

Symbiotics offers tailored private impact debt portfolio management and advisory services, currently serving more than 20 funds for a range of development finance institutions, global banks, asset managers and institutional investors. Symbiotics covers over 1,000 financial institutions and intermediaries in more than 80 emerging and frontier markets, producing legal reviews and compliance checks, credit risk ratings, social responsibility ratings, financial and operational advisory reports, and financing capacity analysis. Through its platform Syminvest, it proposes potential investments to our investment teams and provides information regarding its analysis as described above.

We also use internal analysis to assess the social impact of our microfinance portfolios. These models are also informed by external models in some cases where relevant.

Our inclusive finance activities are also subject to rigorous risk management oversight. Our Operational & Counterparty Risk teams consist of experienced professionals covering counterparty risks and operational risks and are completely independent from the portfolio managers.
