Robeco is an active signatory with active participation in several working groups.

In 2019 this included:

Robeco actively participates in ACGA investor trips, investors calls and ACGA events. Robeco became Governing Council member of the ACGA in 2019.

We are active in the following working groups:

- Japan Working groups 
- Korea working group 
- China working group

We are an investor signatory of CDP. CDP questionnaires on Climate Change are used as a resource for engagement. CDP scores help us identify key areas of engagement, and corporate responses to CDP questionnaires help us monitor progress and compare peer performance on key metrics.

We are an investor signatory of CDP. CDP Forests is a resource for engagement and we encourage companies under engagement to participate.

We are an investor signatory of CDP. CDP questionnaires on Water are used as a resource for engagement. CDP scores help us identify key areas of engagement, and corporate responses to CDP questionnaires help us monitor progress and compare peer performance on key metrics.

We took a leading role in different Climate Action 100+ engagements; in two engagements (Royal Dutch Shell and Enel) we act as a (co-) lead investor. Our leading role in the Climate Action 100+ engagement with Shell lead to the launch of a joint statement, this approach was copied by other investors in other CA100+ engagements. We have spoken at several events including the PRI annual event in Paris on our approach in the Climate Action 100+ collaboration.

Robeco employees were active in the board and different committees of Eumedion:

- Robeco is a board member of Eumedion 

- Robeco is chairing Eumedions investment committee;

- Robeco is member of Eumedions legal committee

- Robeco is member of Eumedions audit committee

- Robeco is member of Eumedions remuneration working group

- Robeco was member of the working group focused on establishing the Dutch Stewardship Code.

In addition, several Robeco colleagues act as 'Eumedion lead member' for Dutch companies and visit Dutch AGMs to speak on behalf of several Eumedion members.

As a member of Invest Europe's permanent Responsible Investment Roundtable, Robeco Private Equity promotes responsible and sustainability investment among private equity managers and investors. Robeco PE is an active member of the core roundtable and currently participates in the Climate Change working group and the working group on ESG research.

GIIN is a global network of impact investors that Robeco joined at the end of 2017. As part of the network Robeco promotes impact investing among the institutional investors. We visited events in 2019 and became part of the Impact in equities working group.

Robeco is a member of GRESB. GRESB data is a resource for our engagement.

GRESB data is also used as part of the investment management process of the Robeco Properties fund to benchmark the funds sustainability profile against the benchmarks sustainability profile.

Robeco is a member of IIGCC. We are part of the corporate programme for collaborative engagement. The IIGCC is the European partner of the Climate Action 100+ (CA100+) Initiative, which was launched in 2017. In 2019, Robeco was actively involved in the CA100+ initiative. Robeco is also member of the IIGCC’s Advisory Group, where we coordinate the engagement strategy in the European automotive sector. Robeco is active in the following engagement related working groups: Advisory cie on automotive & Climate action and methane engagement

As active member of ICCR, Robeco is involved in the Methane working group.

obeco visits the United States regularly to engage with companies in collaboration with other ICCR members. We also co-filed several shareholder proposals together with ICCR members.

Robeco's head of Active Ownership is co-chairing the Board Governance committee of ICGN. Robeco also moderated a panel at the ICGN annual event in Tokyo and employees actively participated in discussions during this conference.

          Member of Dutch SIF VBDO, via this membership we also have access to Eurosif.

We are an active member of VBDO, the Dutch association for responsible investors. In 2019, a Robeco employee was a jury member for the Tax Transparency Benchmark, this benchmark is an initiative of VBDO. https://www.vbdo.nl/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/VBDO-TTB19_Dig.pdf (p.29)

Also we were included in the consultation round on the pension fund benchmark assessment. We gave our feedback on the questionnaire.

Robeco is actively reporting on its progress on the UN Global Compact principles in its Sustainability report. Robeco is using the UN Global Compact principles in executing enhanced engagement. The annual communication on Progress on the UN Global Compact website was in 2019 classified as ‘Advanced’;

          Dutch Platform Living Wage Financials

In 2019 Robeco was a active member of the Dutch Platform Living Wage Financials. Amongst others we were active in the AGM and Garment Working group.

 

          NVP Dutch Private Equity Association - Sustainability Committee

Robeco Private Equity represents Dutch limited partners (LPs) in the Sustainability Committee of the national Private Equity association. From this committee we have initiated the launch of the NVP ESG Award.

          AMEC (Brazilian Corporate Governance Association)

In 2019 Robeco became a board member of AMEC. Next to that Robeco was an active member of the engagement working group. 

          Platform Carbon Accounting Financials

In 2019 Robeco was an active member of Platform Carbon Accounting Financials. PCAF focuses on carbon measurement of funds

In 2019 we were member of the core team of leading financial institutions, we were leading the listed equity working group and we participated in the Sovereign debt working group.

SG 10. Promoting RI independently

Description

          We organized 11 SI explore events and 30 partnership events on SI. Aim of these sessions was to educate clients and share knowledge on ESG, SDGs, Impact investing, engagement and other SI topics. Robeco also organized an ' ask me anything on SI' webinar, where our CEO and head of sustainability integration explained our SI approach and where open for all kind or SI questions
Via our SI essentials e-learning program, which was available throughout 2019 on our website, we encouraged clients and other stakeholders to educate themselves on SI via an online training. Over 670 individuals completed the course and passed the test, earning a certificate in 2019.

          We were an active partner of the Sustainable Value Creation Platform of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The purpose of this platform is to develop new insights through research and education in close collaboration with leading sustainable finance players in the industry and academia. The platform brings together academic faculty research, PhD, Master and Bachelor students, MBAs and executive education, NGOs and professionals in the financial industry. In 2019 a post master student started at Robeco to research impact indicators for the food industry.  

Throughout 2019 Robeco has hired six university students as interns to support our sustainability investment activities.

          We were an active partner of the Sustainable Value Creation Platform of the Erasmus University. The purpose of this platform is to develop new insights through research and education in close collaboration with leading sustainable finance players in the industry and academia. The platform brings together academic faculty research, PhD, Master and Bachelor students, MBAs and executive education, NGOs and professionals in the financial industry. 
We provided input to Corporate Governance Professor Hans van Oosterhout from Erasmus university on Robeco’s active ownership approach as input for his research.

          Robeco colleagues spoke in 2019 at many conferences and / or events on responsible investment related topics and stressed there on many occasions the relevance of transparency and adequate disclosure.

          Robeco published several research papers on responsible investment. 
Main publications include the SI inside booklet. 
Next to this we published the guide to SDG investing. 
We also published position papers, for example on Palm oil and on nuclear energy.

          When we speak with clients we discuss SI including the relevance of the PRI initiative, and through our annual feedback and recommendations to the PE managers in Robeco Private Equity’s  ESG program. 
Next to this, in our marketing campaign in 2019 we have highlighted the importance for our organisation and for our clients of being a PRI signatory.

We have spoken at many seminars and panels around the globe about responsible investment.

Next to letters that we supported we also participated in face to face meetings with governmental organizations during our participation in ACGA investor trips.

Some highlights of our policy engagement activities in 2019 include:

- Eumedion letter on proposed anti-takeover bill
- EFAMA versus Robeco Ecolabel response
- Global investor statement to governments on climate change
- IIGCC letter to EU leaders on net zero emissions target
