The Treasurer is responsible for the direction and oversight of shareholder initiatives focused on ESG factors. The Treasury’s Pension Fund Management (PFM) Division, led by the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), the Deputy CIO and Principal Investment Officers (PIOs), and working in conjunction with the Assistant Treasurer for Policy, are responsible for adding ESG-related questions to investment consultant and manager RFP questionnaires. The Assistant Treasurer for Policy and the Chief Compliance Officer, working with the PIOs, are responsible for the due diligence review of consultants and managers - across all asset classes - in accordance with the ESG policies enumerated within the domestic (U.S.) and global proxy voting policies approved by the Investment Advisory Council, and in accordance with Connecticut statute and contracting rules. The Assistant Treasurer for Policy is also responsible for the identification of ESG issues at specific CRPTF portfolio companies and engagement with those companies' senior management and boards of directors.
