As part of the the CRPTF's due diligence of prospective investment opportunities, there have been several instances where we have received inadequate, vague or ambiguous disclosures of how ESG is integrated into the investment decision making process. Before recommendations were finalized, staff engaged in focused discussions with the firms about their approach to ESG integration, as well as the resources committed to staying abreast of developments.  We've also specifically encouraged external managers to become signatories of the PRI, and to align their ESG policies with the Principles.  In addition, as part of the annual reviews of ESG questionnaires, we track the growth of ESG integration/capacity over time. 

Outcomes

Firms have committed to: signing on to the PRI; designating specific staff responsible for ESG integration; reporting in greater detail the manner in which ESG factors are incorporated into the investment decision making process.
