Describe how the ESG information reviewed and discussed affects the selection decision making process.[OPTIONAL]
As part of an investment product's RI Integrated Status (see above), the inclusion of ESG information in the decision-making process is co-sponsored by the RI Team and the relevant Investment Director/ Portfolio Managers. ESG has a direct influence on the external managers we select. In addition, the Director of RI is a voting member of the Investment Committee so has a direct influence on all key investment decisions. For Global Active Equity, and for Emerging Markets Active Equity, ESG was 20% of the weight of the score for DDQ and RfP. Site visits are essential as we need to gain assurance that the key decision makers/ risk takers for the strategy own the ESG integration process and stand by the value it adds. We seek fund managers whose approach to integrating ESG investment factors increases the likelihood of the manager meeting the mandate instructions, and whose approach is well suited to their investment style and strategy. We are put off by ESG processes that are shoe-horned in or are clearly an afterthought.
