It is common that a private equity manager we are considering for investment does not have a formal Responsible Investment Policy.

Through our advocacy of ESG principles with our investment managers we encourage our managers to begin the adoption of formal responsible investment practices beginning with the implementation of a Policy

Outcomes

Each year, we are successful in having one or more managers begin the implementation of ESG principles through the creation and adoption of a Responsible Investment Policy.

Through our due diligence of a manager’s portfolio company, Schroder Adveq came to the conclusion that the company was not fully adhering to proper governance standards with regards to their social media advertising practices.

The Schroder Adveq investment management and risk management staff formally engaged with the manager and strongly encouraged that their portfolio company adopt improved governance of their advertising business practice as a requirement before we would make an investment commitment.

Outcomes

The manager and the company agreed and have now actively adopted governance practices and measure their adherence to a degree that has exceeded our original expectations.
