The ESG Management System clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of the ESG Manager and the investment team with respect to application. In summary though, the investment team collectively accepts responsibility for ESG management across the portfolio of investments. The ESG Manager then plays a support role, acting as a control point at each stage of the investment life cycle and being available to provide guidance on ESG issues as they arise.
The investment team receive extensive on-the-job ESG training as they take deals through the investment life cycle and work with third party ESG service providers at key stages of the process, under the guidance of more experienced deal team members as well as the ESG Manager. In addition, the investment team regularly attends ESG seminars and training sessions as they come up during the year.
