Recently, SWEN CP joined the PRI Infrastructure Advisory Committee (2017) as well as the Private Debt working group (2018).

As member of the LP Responsible Investment DDQ Working Group, SWEN CP actively participated in 2015/16 in the work leading up to the LP Due Diligence Questionnaire. Moreover, SWEN CP participated in the working group to develop LP guidance on ESG clauses in fund documentation.

As a member of the “Commission ESG" steering committee, SWEN CP strives to spread responsible investment practices throughout all the profession. The company attended all steering committees, participated in working projects and took part in meetings organised by the ESG commission. SWEN Capital Partners is also strongly involved in Commission Working Groups. In 2018, SWEN CP took part in several workshops, especially those aimed at harmonizing ESG questionnaires at LP level. Moreover, SWEN CP is a member & sponsor of the Impact Investing Commission.

In early 2016, SWEN CP joined the Initiative Climat 2020 (IC20). In line with the COP 21 objectives of limiting global warming, IC20 signatories commit to consider the issue of climate change in their investment process. SWEN CP promote this initiative among its GPs and LPs.

In 2017 SWEN became a member of the fourth IC 20 working group entitled “Identify and assess the companies’ positive impacts on climate”.

Description

          Committed to build long-term partnership with its general partners, SWEN CP regularly engages in dialogue with its GPs during private meetings, conferences, etc. ESG and responsible investment issues are systematically addressed during these meetings. The main interest is to discuss with the investment team how responsible policies are truly implemented, beyond mere declarations of intent displayed on corporate website / documents. These meetings are also the occasion to provide our GPs with peer comparison elements which come from our annual ESG data collection campaign (more details in SWEN CP’s answers that follow). A two-pager report summarising the GPs RI practices in comparison with its peers is then used as a discussion paper.

Description

          In 2018, SWEN CP organised the fifth edition of its ESG Best Practices Honours. These honours reward the most outstanding ESG practices from Private Equity and Infrastructure mostly European managers. SWEN CP wanted to give market players a view of outstanding ESG practices in Private Equity and Infrastructure among over 200 management companies, both within its portfolio and across its potential investment universe.

          As a speaker, SWEN CP participated in multiple events and panel discussions in 2018: PRI (“Future-Proofing Infrastructure Investing: London Forum” – focus session on ESG in manger selection), OFI AM (annual conference – focus on impact investing and private equity), MACIF (Annual general meeting – “l’ISR : le pouvoir d’agir”).

          SWEN CP promotes the principles as a speaker in public events, in its ESG questionnaires, during the meetings with its clients or GPs, etc.

          SWEN published in the French newspaper "Magazine des Affaires" two studies summarising the results of its 2018 ESG campaign for PE and infrastructure asset classes.

In 2018, SWEN Capital Partners supported, among more than 300 other investors, the “Global Investor Statement to Governments on Climate Change”. This statement was made to “reiterate our full support for the Paris Agreement and strongly urge all governments to implement the actions that are needed to achieve the goals of the Agreement, with the utmost urgency”. It was also specified in this declaration that signatories “welcome the recommendations of the Financial Stability Board’s (FSB) Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and are taking practical steps to assist their implementation around the world. In order for the TCFD to be effective, it is vital that governments commit to improve climate-related financial reporting standards by publicly supporting the adoption of the TCFD recommendations and the extension of its term beyond September 2018”.
