We believe that a disciplined long-term contrarian approach is the most reliable way to achieve superior absolute returns for investors over the long term. From idea generation to detailed industry research, company management meetings, fundamental company research, portfolio construction, voting and engaging on our clients' behalf and continual review of our performance and attribution analysis - there is a disciplined yet dynamic process involving all members of our investment team.  

Our long-term investment focus drives our involvement in research and disclosure initiatives that will enhance our understanding of the long-term risks facing the companies in which we invest on our clients' behalf. As such, our Investment Process also integrates our detailed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) research into our fundamental research of companies in our portfolio universe.

The key element is to identify where, and which ESG isssues may be both material and relevant to a specific company.

As an example, water access, management and the cost thereof are both material and relevant for a resource company, but generally immaterial for a financial services company.

Element has established a management policy for conflicts of interest enabling it to prevent
potential conflicts of interest, manage actual conflicts of interest and communicate them
effectively to clients. This policy is based on a system of prevention, detection, management,
communication and recording conflicts of interest.

SG 04. Identifying incidents occurring within portfolios

04.2. Describe your process on managing incidents

1. Contact company management - done by the analyst whom covers the company, as well as portfolio managers. 2. Understand the nature of the incident, how it arose, the materiality / potential materiality to the company. 3. Understand what management is doing to address the issue, manage the incident and reduce the materiality to the company where possible. 4. Understand what procedures management have / will put in place to ensure a similar incident does not occur in future. 5. Follow up on point 4 above.
