Ownership Capital actively participates in PRI events and seeks to take a leadership role in the industry to promote the adoption of the Principles for Responsible Investment. 

In 2017, Ownership Capital's CIO, Alex van der Velden, served as the Chair of the PRI Listed Equity Advisory Committee. 

During the reporting period, Alex van der Velden spoke at the annual PRI in Person conference on a panel entitled “ESG integration: how to assess investment managers' practices.” Alex's contribution focused on Ownership Capital’s investment process in relation to the principles of the UN PRI and the role of an engaged ownership strategy in creating positive outcomes for clients, companies, investors, and society. Also at the PRI in Person, Ownership Capital hosted an investor breakfast to bring together a group of global asset owners and discuss best practices in responsible investment.

Finally, Francois Schockaert, a PM and a member of the PRI's Listed Equity Outreach Subcommittee, participated in the PRI workshop hosted by the CFA Institute in the Netherlands aiming at discussing the impact of ESG integration on investment processes, decision-making and financial markets.

We became a signatory of a letter to the G20 from investors pushing for strong action on climate change.

As an Asset Manager with a staff of 17 professionals, we try to focus our collaborative engagments where we believe that we can have the greatest impact and support our clients / investor partners with their initiatives. In addition to our focus on the UNPRI, we are members of and support a number of other initiatives, often in conjuntion with our investor clients.

Therefore, we have listed our outreach as "Basic" across most categories- but would argue that for an organisation of our size it is, indeed, "Advanced".

Description

          In 2017, Ownership Capital hosted an educational lunch for senior pension fund executives from the UK and the Netherlands. The lunch focused on the role of investors in the long-term success and sustainability of publicly-held companies.

          In 2017, Ownership Capital provided financial support to two industry groups with a focus on responsible investment research and collaborative engagement.

Description

          Antoinette van Lier contributed to a Dutch book, called "Duurzaamheid in de Boardroom", which translates to "Sustainability in the Boardroom." In her section, Antoinette detailed the rationale behind an approach guided by principles of ownership, rather than the short-term trading mentality currently dominant in much of the market.

Description

          In 2017, we participated in the FSB Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures’ call for input regarding how businesses and investors should take into account the financial ramifications of climate change. Our suggestions were based around our experiences in integrating ESG into our investment process through our OC Govern model, and specifically how important it has been to have a framework that is geared towards financially-relevant issues. In Q2, the FSB released their report, which recommends disclosure in the areas of Governance, Strategy, Risk Management, and Metrics & Targets. We believe this was a strong call to action for the majority of investors who don’t integrate climate change into their investment decisions or only partially do so. We will continue to support this project as it moves forward.

          In 2017, Ownership Capital spoke at several industry conferences and events to promote responsible investment. Alex van der Velden moderated a panel at the Rights and Responsibilities conference focused on the consequences that can arise when actively engaging with companies to reduce risks, and companies' impact on society and the environment. In addition, Alex spoke at the 2017 PRI in Person conference in Berlin. Alex was a panelist in a session titled "ESG integration: how to assess investment managers' practices". Lastly, Alex van der Velden also gave a speech on engaged ownership as a practical approach to achieving the primary goals of responsible investment at a conference co-hosted by ShareAction and the European Responsible Investment Network (ERIN).
