When it comes to the environmental and ethical aspects of business activities, AP2's core values are based on principles that highlight engagement, active ownership and change, with a view to making a difference. AP2 strives to make a difference by working proactively for sustainable development in areas that promote a high long-term return on investment, while at the same time becoming actively involved in companies where problems have been identified, been deemed as significant and are well substantiated. This is a responsible and ethical approach. If AP2 terminates its interest in a company, the problem doesn't disappear and the unsatisfactory state of affairs continues. For this reason, a divestment of AP2 assets is only considered as a final solution, when any prospect of making a difference is thought to be hopeless. As part of the Swedish national pension system, AP2's principles of engagement, active ownership and change are based on the same core values as those espoused by the Swedish State.
