01.4. Describe your organisation’s investment principles and overall investment strategy, and how they consider ESG factors and real economy impact.

Our Investment Code sets out our stance and Working Principles, as well as the management commitment to support and resource its implementation. We do not have a separate ‘Responsible Investment Policy’  - our Investment Code stands for the way we do business in all our investment undertakings.

The importance of taking ESG matters into consideration, and of adhering to the Palatine pre and post-deal processes for managing ESG risks and opportunities, is understood and talked about by the Partners, the Investment Team and the wider team in everyday business.

Palatnie have recently raised an impact Fund which will follow the ESG investment principles outlined above and  invest in companies with a measurable positive social or environmental impact, while targeting market-rate private equity returns.

01.5. Provide a brief description of the key elements, any variations or exceptions to your investment policy that covers your responsible investment approach. [Optional]

There is a clear understanding and expectation that ESG matters will be identified and addressed at all stages of the investment cycle.  We have adopted our own ESG profiling structure, called the Palatine 6 Pillars of ESG. This expands the headline categories of Environment, Social and Governance out into themes that are readily recognised as being relevant to running a robust and sustainable business

Pre-deal we have a defined, stepwise process for screening, profiling and weighing ESG matters in the pre-deal phase, with a series of ‘expert tools’ to support team members as they progress through the sequence towards final Investment Committee decision. This also begins the process of alerting the Board and the senior management team of the target company that ESG management will be important throughout the investment.
