In 2005, Richard Elmslie and Nick Langley created the concept for RARE, applying their experience in the
unlisted infrastructure market to analysing and investing in the listed infrastructure market. On 20 August
2006, they entered into a shareholders agreement with Treasury Group Limited (currently known as Pacific
Current Group) and established RARE Infrastructure Limited (RARE), an investment management firm
focused solely on global listed infrastructure.

On 21 October 2015, specialist global asset manager Legg Mason completed the acquisition of a 75%
majority equity interest in the RARE Group. RARE senior management and investment staff have retained a
15% ownership, with Pacific Current Group preserving a 10% equity interest. Under this ownership
structure, RARE continues to operate as an independent investment affiliate within the Legg Mason Group
of managers. Legg Mason provides RARE with a range of non-investment support services including fund
structures, HR and global distribution support.

RARE's Offices

RARE has three regional Australian offices (Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane). Through Legg Mason, RARE has dedicated distribution channels in North America, the UK, and Europe.

RARE’s Organisational Structure
As at 31 December 2017, RARE employed 50 staff, comprising 13 in the investment team, 7 in distribution
and 30 in investment operations, legal, risk and compliance, trading, marketing and other support roles.
