          Number and depth of collaborative engagements and one-on-one engagements

Progress achieved

We progressed on the number and depth of collaborative engagements. In 2016 we participated in 41 collaborative engagements, and in 2017 the total rose to 64.

We also formalized our engagement pollcy and conducted our own corporate engagements. We initiated 76 discussions and focused on issues such as water risks, supply-chain human rights, and separation of CEO/Chair.

          Add new sources of ESG data to reduce biases of any one data source
Improve water metrics corporate coverage

Progress achieved

We constantly test new sources of information. Last year we added raw data from several vendors to a variety of E, S and G factors in our quantitative model. 

We increased incorporation of water metrics via CDP and other vendors as well as internal research. We used this in addition to proprietary carbon and water metric within our quantitative model.

For 2018, pursuing waterBeta study with U of Michigan professor for companies within industries most exposed to water issues (food & beverage, extractive industries, paper, semiconductors)

          Grow relationships with mission-aligned entities to leverage our resources, visibility and ESG impact.

Progress achieved

Increased collaborative advocacy efforts with Ceres, UNPRI, ICCR and others. Examples below. For more details see Active Ownership.

ICCR: Participated in collaborative letters, calls, meetings.

PRI: Participated in 2-degree scenario research rollout (Chicago). Pre-declared our proxy votes on climate issues as part of a campaign to raise awareness and garner support.

Ceres: As part of Investor Network and Water Hub subgroup, served as a guest speaker on a webinar and helped launch online Water Toolkit. 

The Water Council: Joined this Great Lakes based (Milwaukee) water accelerator and participated in membership meetings and water technology presentations. The Water Council is the North American headquarters for the Alliance for Water Stewardship
