CalSTRS works diligently to incorporate the PRI principles and participates on several advisory committees and working groups.

CalSTRS staff participated in quarterly conference calls, endorsed best-practice governance in Asian markets, and joined an investor delegation to India that engaged regulators, exchanges, investors and companies on the importance of incorporating strong governance policies into India's financial markets.

CalSTRS encouraged portfolio companies to respond to the CDP surveys. CalSTRS staff participated in CDP sponsored events that promoted the importance of reporting to the CDP surveys as a means of managing environmental risks

CalSTRS has always been very active in CII, taking leadership roles and participating in CII sponsored events that promote best-practice governance practices. During this reporting period, CalSTRS staff were members of the CII and staff represented CalSTRS as a member of CII Board of Directors.

 2017 marked the third Green Bond Principles Annual Green Meeting in Paris, which CalSTRS staff attended. CalSTRS Fixed Income staff serves on the Green Bond Principles executive committee. Executive committee membership is based on a rotating election. Participate in an ICCR Methane Investor Group to help progress methane related engagements.

CalSTRS has always been very active with ICGN, taking leadership roles and participating in ICGN-sponsored events that promote best practice governance globally.

CalSTRS staff have attended meetings with IIRC and have met with companies to discuss their use of reporting on the IR standard.

CalSTRS staff continued to be very actively involved with the INCR and Ceres. CalSTRS CEO was a Ceres Board member and chaired the Investor Programs Committee. CalSTRS Investment staff were members of the INCR Policy Working Group, CERES Water Hub, the Green Bonds Working Group and the Shareholder Initiative on Climate and Sustainability Working Group. 

CalSTRS also took active roles at Ceres-sponsored events, advocating for integration of environmental conisderations into investment decision making.

Staff have attended meetings and conferences to discuss the UN SDG initative and have spoken with portfolio companies who have chosen to report on the SDG's.
