01.4. Provide a brief overview of your organization’s approach to engagement

We approach engagement through a variety of means, including collective engagement, such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, and thoughtfully exercising our proxy voting rights.

Engagement on ESG issues with public companies is also undertaken by OPB's external managers where engagement is often embedded within their fundamental research process, such as meetings with company management, and part of their active ownership strategies. As noted elsewhere in this report, when selecting and monitoring external managers, we consider the manager’s ESG practices, including corporate engagement and participation in collaborative initiatives.

In addition to the engagement efforts of our external managers, OPB also promotes engagement through its membership in the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG). The CCGG engages directly with Board members and management of Canadian public companies and leads initiatives to improve the regulatory environment in Canada.
