The RBC GAM Approach to Responsible Investment is reviewed and updated annually. In addition, RBC GAM publishes its annual and semi-annual Corporate Governance & Responsible Investment reports as at December 31 and June 30.
Provide at least one formal external ESG training opportunity to all investment teams and portfolio managers.
KPI was achieved. All investment teams and portfolio managers had at least one external training opportunity made available to them, and for most individuals there were two or more. Also ad-hoc internal training was provided by the Corporate Governance & Responsible Investment (CGRI) team when requested.
Grow commitment to transparency and reporting on ESG issues and activities, both internally and externally.
KPI was achieved. The CGRI team has produced a number of internal and external reports, presented to various internal stakeholder groups, and responded to ad-hoc requests for information and reporting. The internal awareness of ESG issues and the RBC GAM approach to these issues has been increasing significantly as a result of these activities.
Develop a focused and structured engagement program to deliver value for our investment teams.
Progress has been made towards achieving KPI. RBC GAM significantly expanded our engagement activities in 2016, which included both proactive engagement and reactive engagements initiated by companies held in our portfolios. We are continuing to expand and improve our engagement program in a way that ensures we continue to work closely with all of the investment teams.
