07.2. For the roles for which you have RI oversight/accountability or implementation responsibilities, indicate how you execute these responsibilities.

RBC GAM has a CGRI team dedicated to the implementation of ESG considerations in the investment process. The CGRI team is embedded as part of the investment team and the head of the CGRI team reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer, who in turn reports to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors in Canada. The Head of the CGRI team is a member of the Executive Committee of RBC GAM. Please note that BlueBay's oversight structure is outlined in its PRI Transparency Report. 

The responsibilities of the CGRI team include:

  • ensuring the proper exercise of our rights as owners by voting our proxies in accordance with our custom Proxy Voting Guidelines
  • overseeing the provision of ESG-related research to the investment teams
  • providing additional research or information as may be required on ESG issues related to specific asset classes, companies, sectors or themes
  • providing updates to the investment teams on evolving trends and best practices regarding ESG issues
  • implementing an ESG-focused engagement program, with appropriate participation by portfolio managers and subsequent reporting to them
  • preparing or assisting in preparing appropriate general and client-specific reporting on our ESG-related activities
  • considering opportunities for publications, research or other initiatives that demonstrate thought leadership in the area of responsible investment
  • considering appropriate collaboration with other institutional investors and national or international organizations/coalitions on ESG-related issues

The responsibilities of our investment teams include:

  • developing a process to integrate ESG factors into their investment process in a way that is relevant to each asset class and/or investment strategy
  • considering the material ESG risks and opportunities of each investment
  • being able to describe how ESG is integrated into their investment process so as to facilitate meaningful reporting to clients
  • considering engaging with companies demonstrating material ESG risks, either by the investment team or the CGRI team
  • communicating and coordinating with the CGRI team on engagement issues
