Amongst other activities:

  • Our client ABP has set a carbon reduction target for our Listed Equity portfolio. For that purpose, portfolio managers at APG receive carbon budgets. This happened for the first time in 2016. This budget will be reduced step by step to achieve a reduction of 25% in 2020 (compared to 2015). Our annual Responsible Investment Report will report on intermediate progress
  • We have launched a statement in September 2016 together with several other institutional investors on investing in solutions that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This group of investors will strive to facilitate a steep increase in Sustainable Development Investments (SDIs) which contribute to the SDGs and create positive social and environmental impact whilst meeting our financial risk and return requirements.
  • In 2016, we worked together with our clients to further develop their new Inclusion Policy. For example, as part of this new policy, by 2020 our client ABP wants to be mainly invested in companies that pay sufficient attention to sustainability and behave in a responsible manner. In order to further this aim, we developed a classification methodology to categorise companies as either laggards or leaders. We will use these classifications in investment decisions. In due course, lagging companies are only allowed to be included in the capital markets portfolio if we engage and there is sufficient potential for the company to improve.
