The objective of any engagement is an improvement in company behaviour. The criteria for entering into an engagement process is when a company is breaching the Global Compact with a category five breach.

Systematic breaches of the UN Global Compact constitute financial, operational and reputational risks for a company and its stakeholders (e.g. shareholders). Companies must therefore avoid to systematicaly breach these principles. However, if they are in breach, they should remedy it and prevent any future breaches. Generally this is the objective for any internal/external engagement.
