Engagement

Overview

LEA 01. Description of approach to engagement

New selection options have been added to this indicator. Please review your prefilled responses carefully.

01.1. Indicate whether your organisation has a formal engagement policy.

01.5. Additional information [optional]

We don't have a seperate and formal policy for engagement on ESG issues. Engagement occurs in the course of an analyst reviewing the stock, and is part of the investment process. It slots into broader engagement and investment queries. The analyst is rigorously interrogated on his research by the broader equity team and portfolio managers, and this stimulates initial and may result in further engagement. We see no need for a self standing policy - ESG should be a natural fit into the broader investment process, and not a stand alone step.

          See below under additional information

05.3. Additional information [Optional]

We only engage in collaborative engagements if there is very clear evidence of the need to engage, and there is a clear and pure motive indicated for the engagment, and who they initiated it and why. We have concerns some engagements that are sent to us for participation may be too close to opportunities for market manipulation, or simply lack evidence for the degree of engagement requested.
