We participate in the US Network, during 2016 that included efforts to rebuild the US signatory base and attendance at US focused events.

We are active in working groups and work streams.

We attend the PRI in Person meetings and help with panel and speaker selections.

We support staff, engagements and board members where appropriate, given our global relationship and collaboration with asset owners.

We participate in the CII Activism Committee to discuss and review collaborative engagements. We lobby for policies and regulatory changes and support other initiatives hosted by CII.  

Starting in 2015 an SEIU Master Trust Fund deputy trustee was elected to the Board of Director's of CII.  New responsibilities include oversight of the organization and serving on the governance and policies committees.  Also, we will play an increased role in the work of the Council to promote corporate governance through webinars, advocacy, conferences and collaboration with other investors.

We are also focusing our efforts to improve board diversity through our collaborations with CII members.

SEIU Capital Stewardship Staff presented at a workshop on increasing diversity in the capital markets.

We are active in CERES/INCR around shareholder engagement and collaborate through the SICS working group.  Shareholder Initiative on Climate and Sustainability.

We are active in the education programs on planning and attendance.  Also, through the Committee on Worker's Capital.

          We participate in collaborative initiatives led by the CtW Investment Group, such as vote no campaigns, and engagements with companies.

          Harvard Initiative for Responsible Investment, Trustee Leadership Forum (TLF)

We were founders of the TLF in 2010.  The Trustee Leadership Forum for Retirement Security is an applied research collaboration with labor-affiliated trustees of public and Taft-Hartley pension funds, with implications for stakeholders across investment markets. The project draws on the experiences of these trustees to identify the core issues they face in developing strategies for long-term sustainable wealth creation – how they grapple with and react to the role that portfolio theory, fiduciary duty, agency issues among trustees, staff, consultants, legal advisors and fund managers, and challenges to the very idea of defined benefit pension plans.

In 2016 SEIU Capital Stewardship in collaboration with TLF has helped to lead trustee roundtables to in Chicago, Ohio, New York and Northern California.
