As of early 2017, HQCRE’s ESG initiatives are primarily focused on the asset management functions, where annual ESG reviews are usually in place and recommendations implemented in keeping with our triple bottom line investment philosophy.

HQCRE is working towards formally integrating ESG considerations into the investment selection process in the future, though the existing policy can be interpreted as ESG by default, where partner background checks, legal and environmental due diligence, and market reports assist in excluding investments that could contradict our existing ESG policy.

ESG issues are increasingly being considered in the pre-investment phase of the investment process, in addition to the asset management functions, where these factors are more typically considered with a view to cut costs and lower wastage in the energy expense line items.
